Join Jolanda for a nourishing Qigong series and experience the calming, restorative benefits of this ancient practice in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is an ancient Chinese mind-body practise which is closely related to Taiji (Tai Chi). They both use exercises to optimize energy flow within the body, mind and spirit to enhance health and wellbeing.
While Taiji movements generally originated from martial arts and fending off an opponent, many of the gentle Qigong movements originated in the close observation of nature and the creatures surrounding humans. Over several millennia a multitude of styles (over 1200) of Qigong have been developed and passed down, some of these traditions are more leaning into the movements, others internalized these movements and developed more meditative exercises. They all promote stress reduction and deep relaxed breathing, flexibility and balance as well as increased cardio-vascular function, circulation of blood and lymph and general vitality (Qi).
Qigong classes at the Kelowna Yoga Hub invite students on a journey to different places in nature (the ocean with its waves, a tree, a silkworm becoming a butterfly…). The Daoist (Taoist) practice of Healing Sounds, which combines movements with sounds geared at optimizing the energy in body, mind and spirit, is part of every class. Qigong classes are suitable for all abilities as the exercises can be done in standing or sitting position and can be adapted to individual needs.
